What is WellNaTour?
Tourism has the power to shape how we experience—and protect—the ocean. WellNaTour was created to support tourism operators in rethinking the way experiences are designed and delivered. It empowers professionals to move beyond traditional models and create moments that are not only memorable, but also sustainable, inclusive, and deeply connected to the marine environment.
WellNaTour is an Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training (VET) small-scale partnership, co-funded by the European Union, led by EcoMarine Malta in collaboration with Centro Pastore.
It supports the transformation of marine tourism into a sector that balances:
- Environmental protection
- Blue Economy
- Human well-being
In the context of a rapidly evolving Blue Economy, these skills are becoming essential. Today’s travellers are increasingly aware, seeking authentic experiences rooted in environmental responsibility and genuine connection.
More importantly, WellNaTour supports operators in becoming true stewards of the marine environment—protecting marine species, engaging local communities, and fostering a shared sense of responsibility for the sea.
Through this transformation, tourism becomes more than a service: it becomes a bridge between people, nature, and culture.
Why It Matters
Marine tourism is vital for coastal economies—but without the right approach, it can place increasing pressure on fragile marine ecosystems and local communities.
Pollution & Habitat Disruption
Develop skills to design and deliver sustainable tourism experiences that minimise environmental impact and protect marine ecosystems.
Lack of Practical Tools
Many tourism operators lack the training and practical tools needed to design and deliver truly sustainable and responsible experiences.
Growing Demand
Travellers are increasingly seeking authentic, eco-conscious experiences—creating a clear opportunity for operators who are ready to adapt.
WellNaTour transforms these challenges into opportunities—empowering tourism professionals to lead change, protect marine ecosystems, and create meaningful experiences within the Blue Economy.

We are shaping a new generation of tourism, where professionals become stewards of the ocean, creating experiences that connect people, protect marine life, and generate lasting value for communities and the Blue Economy.
